Over 40 years after its disappearance, International Harvester remains a mythical brand in North America, largely due to the iconic Scout, one of the earliest SUVs in the world. Now, under Volkswagen ownership, Scout Motors has resurfaced as a new marque unveiling its initial offerings: the Terra pickup and Traveler SUV, both utilizing a fresh EV platform and priced under $60,000 before incentives upon their 2027 launch. While showcasing modern designs, the new vehicles pay homage to their predecessors with rounded contours, a “black mask” on the fascias, separate bumpers, and characteristic upward-sweeping side windows. With a mix of classic and contemporary design elements, the Terra and Traveler promise a blend of practicality and toughness reminiscent of the original Scout models produced by International between 1961 and 1980. These newly revealed models boast efficiency and power, with capabilities like 0-60 MPH acceleration in 3.5 seconds, 2,000-pound payload, and 7,000-10,000 pounds of towing capacity. Featuring all-wheel drive and a solid rear axle, the vehicles cater to outdoor enthusiasts while offering luxury and high-tech features within the cabin, including digital displays, advanced infotainment systems, and bidirectional charging capabilities. Scout’s direct-to-consumer sales approach, along with a new factory in South Carolina and prices starting under $60,000, signal a promising future for the revived brand.
