Bluesky has unveiled its strategy to generate revenue without relying solely on advertisements, with plans to introduce a premium subscription model that grants access to profile customization tools and higher quality video uploads. Paid users will not receive preferential treatment such as boosted visibility or verification badges. The platform also intends to implement a tip jar for creators to monetize their content and projects voluntarily. Despite raising $15 million in its Series A funding round, Bluesky, backed by Blockchain Capital, promises not to involve tokens, crypto trading, or NFTs in its social experience. With over 13 million users, including a significant number from X following a temporary ban in Brazil, Bluesky continues to grow without using traditional ad-based revenue models. Subscription revenue will be invested in app improvement, developer ecosystem growth, and exploring alternative business models.
