Waymo has secured an oversubscribed investment round of $5.6 billion, with Alphabet being the largest investor, bringing its total capital fundraising to $11.1 billion. The company is planning to expand to Austin and Atlanta by early 2025 in collaboration with Uber, using this latest funding for its expansions. Waymo currently operates in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Phoenix, offering curbside transport services and fully autonomous freeway operations. The new funding will also support the advancement of the adaptable Waymo One autonomous driving system for various business applications. Alphabet had previously invested $5 billion in Waymo as part of a multi-year investment plan. With a driverless vehicle fleet that has logged 25 million miles, Waymo continues to lead the industry, surpassing competitors like Uber, which sold its self-driving unit and later teamed up with Waymo.
