Apple is reportedly still working on glucose management through software, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. The company tested an app for pre-diabetic individuals to help manage their diet and lifestyle, but has no plans to release it to consumers. In the internal test, Apple employees who were at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes actively monitored their blood sugar levels and correlated them with dietary changes. The app was paused to focus on other health features, as the Apple Health app currently lacks meal tracking compared to rival services. Apple could potentially offer deeper third-party glucose tracking integration in the future. This study was separate from Apple’s ongoing quest for non-invasive blood glucose monitoring, with a current hardware prototype being an iPhone-sized wearable device. The first consumer-facing version is expected to only notify users if they are pre-diabetic, with specific glucose levels to be included in later iterations.
