Playtonic Games’ nostalgic tribute to 3D platformers from the ’90s, Yooka-Laylee, is receiving a remastered version titled Yooka-Re-playee for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and “Nintendo platforms.” This could potentially include the Nintendo Switch and the next Nintendo console. Yooka-Laylee, considered a spiritual successor to classics like Banjo-Kazooie and Spyro the Dragon, was brought to life by some creators of the original Banjo-Kazooie and Donkey Kong Country. The game was funded through a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2015, raising more than £2 million, before being released for consoles, PC, and Mac two years later. Playtonic Games followed up with a sequel called Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair in 2017. The remastered version of Yooka-Laylee features updated graphics, new enemies, revamped controls and camera views, and an enhanced orchestral update of the original score by Grant Kirkhope and David Wise. In this updated adventure reminiscent of Banjo-Kazooie, players explore a colorful open world as the chameleon Yooka and bat Laylee, who must thwart the evil CEO Capital B’s plan to steal all the world’s books with a massive vacuum. Traveling to Hivory Towers, the duo aim to prevent Capital B from gaining the universe-altering power of the elusive “Pagies” contained within the One Book.
